Sherrie Chambers-Wilson

Chambers-Wilson was a longtime member of the USA Judo team, winning medals at several national and international competitions.

Chambers-Wilson began participating in judo at Snohomish Dojo in 1974, and while she was in high school she medaled at the U.S. Junior Olympics.

In 1982 Chambers-Wilson was selected to the USA Judo team, and she remained part of the team through 1996. During her time with USA Judo she achieved the No. 1 ranking nationally and reached a top-ten ranking worldwide in her weight class. Her accomplishments include winning a gold medal at the Austrian Open, a silver at the Pan American Games and a bronze at the World University Championships. She was named Female Athlete of the Year by USA Judo in 1995, and she was an alternate for the 1996 Olympics.

Chambers-Wilson was also a leader on the USA Judo team, being named the U.S. Olympic Training Center team captain from 1990-96, the U.S. captain for the 1993 World Judo Championships, and the U.S. captain for the 1995 Pan American Games.

After retiring from competition Chambers-Wilson has remained heavily involved in the national judo community, operating the Boulder Training Center for 17 years, coaching multiple national and international medalists, and serving in multiple administrative roles. She’s currently USA Judo’s director of development.

This is the sixth of nine profiles on the 2020 Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame induction class. This year’s banquet was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic, and the inductees will be officially honored at the 2021 banquet.
