EVERETT — A van in the 1100 block of Hewitt Avenue was engulfed in flames Thursday morning.

The fire broke out at 9:13 a.m., creating a big plume of smoke in downtown Everett. One fire engine was able to put it out fairly quickly.

No injuries were reported, and there was no danger to nearby buildings, said Everett Fire Department Assistant Fire Marshal Steve Goforth.

The cause wasn’t clear. The fire was believed to be an accident and wasn’t being investigated further, Goforth said.

No crime was being investigated in connection with the fire.

The van was a total loss.
