3A STATE TOURNAMENT

Play-in games (Winner to regionals, loser out)

Arlington 73, Evergreen (Vancouver) 53

EVERETT — Ethan Martin scored 35 points, including 26 in the first half, to lead the No. 13-seeded Arlington boys basketball team to a win over No. 20 seed Evergreen-Vancouver in a Class 3A state play-in game Tuesday night at Arlington High School.

Martin, a senior, scored the Eagles’ first 13 points and finished with six 3-pointers.

With the victory, Arlington (18-5) earned its third state regional berth in the past four full-length seasons. The Eagles travel east to face No. 12 seed Ferris in a loser-out state regional game Saturday in Spokane Valley, with the winner advancing to next week’s Hardwood Classic in the Tacoma Dome.

Kelso 79, Shorecrest 57

KELSO — Seventeenth-seeded Shorecrest fell to No. 16 Kelso in a Class 3A state play-in game on Tuesday night.

Shorecrest (20-5) fell behind by 23 at halftime and couldn’t recover in the season-ending loss.

Kelso (15-8) advanced to face No. 9 Mountlake Terrace in a loser-out regional game at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Jackson High School.
