Jackson softball beats Lake Stevens to claim state berth

EVERETT — Kalia Zellmer and Simone Williams hit two-run home runs and Jackson beat Lake Stevens 8-1 in a winner-to-state Class 4A Wes-King Bi-District game Friday at Phil Johnson Ballfields.

Zellmer’s home run came in the first inning and Williams’ in the third.

Williams drove in three runs, Leneyah Michell added an RBI double and Hailey Pelletier chipped in two RBI for the Timberwolves.

Allie Thomsen allowed one unearned run over two innings and Yanina Sherwood didn’t allow a hit over five scoreless innings of relief.

Jackson, the two-time defending 4A state champion, advanced to the state tournament for the sixth consecutive time.

Ava Heston hit a double for the Vikings, who finished with just three hits.

The Timberwolves moved to the third/fourth-place game later in the evening and beat Redmond 7-4, improving to 22-2 on the season.

Thomsen and Pelletier each had two hits, including a double apiece, and two RBI against Redmond. Macie Dean added two hits and an RBI.

The Vikings had one more chance to get to state in a loser-out contest against Inglemoor later in the evening, but fell 7-6.

Lake Stevens finshed the season 11-11.
