EVERETT — An 11-year-old boy was turned over to law enforcement by one of his parents on Sunday, two days after he allegedly attempted to stab a student at a Lynnwood middle school, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said.

The child was booked into Denney Juvenile Justice Center for second-degree assault and possession of a weapon on school property.

In a release Friday, the sheriff’s office said the child arrived at Alderwood Middle School and tried to stab another student. A teacher witnessed the incident and intervened, stopping the victim from being injured, the sheriff’s office said.

The suspect, believed to be a former student at the school, fled on foot after the incident, according to a release. Deputies said there is no active threat to students, staff or the school.
