Driver survives guardrail running through car in Everett crash on I-5

EVERETT — A guardrail pierced through a car during a crash on southbound I-5 early Monday, sending the driver to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Just before 7:30 a.m. Monday, Everett Fire crews responded to reports a one-car collision north of Exit 189, where a guardrail had penetrated through the vehicle from the firewall to the back window, according to a social media post from the Everett Fire Department.
The driver was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the post said. Washington State Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
In light of the collison, the Everett Fire Department provided some safety reminders for drivers:
- “Slow down and follow the speed limit.”
- “Keep appropriate space between vehicles.”
- “Use your turn signals.”
- “Keep your eyes on the road.”
- “Put the cell phone down while driving.”
- “If you’re feeling tired, pull over to rest.”
- “Always wear your seatbelt.”
- “Drive sober.”
- “Be patient and courteous.”
