Vista Clara Coffee owner and master roaster Dave Stewart has been presented with the Patriot Award by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve for hiring and supporting guard members. Stewart was nominated by his employee Scott Noll who serves in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Vista Clara Coffee is located in Snohomish.

New VP joins Bothell’s Alder BioPharmaceuticals

Bothell’s Alder BioPharmaceuticals has announced the appointment of Nancy L. Boman, M.D., Ph.D. as senior vice president of regulatory affairs and pharmacovigilance. Boman will be responsible for developing and implementing the regulatory strategy and pharmacovigilance program of ALD403 for migraine prevention. She joins Alder from Cell Therapeutics Inc., where she most recently served as the senior vice president of clinical development and regulatory affairs.

Environment Washington encourages solar expansion

Environment Washington has launched the Shining Cities campaign to encourage local governments to embrace solar targets by the end of next year. According to the campaign, Washington has the technical potential to produce 21 times as much electricity from solar power as the state consumes each year. The state already employs more than 2,000 workers in the solar industry.

Following the closure of ITT Tech, WGU Washington has launched the ITT Transfer Scholarship. Qualifying ITT Tech students who transfer to the nonprofit, online university are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Those interested in applying should visit the university’s website to ensure WGU Washington is the best option for them.

Nominate a small business for SBA award

The U.S. Small Business Administration is now accepting nominations for its 2017 National Small Business Week Awards, including the annual Small Business Person of the Year. All nominations must be submitted no later than noon Jan. 10. The dedicated website www.sba.gov/nsbw/awards provides forms, criteria and guidelines for submitting a nomination.
