EVERETT — Washington Home of Your Own, a nonprofit that provides low-income housing and other services, has changed its name to Journey Housing and Payee Services.
The new name describes the services it provides the community and “speaks to the idea that life is a journey, and perhaps our agency can provide support along the way,” agency officials said in a news release.
The organization was founded in 2000 to assist people with disabilities in purchasing their homes.
Over the years, the organization’s mission changed from home-ownership programs to leasing 27 housing units in Snohomish and Island counties to low-income residents. Around the same time, Journey Housing opened its first payee office in Everett. The payee department now serves more than 500 clients throughout Washington with offices in Mountlake Terrace, Everett, Mount Vernon and Bellingham.
To celebrate the new name, Journey Housing and Payee Services hosted an open house Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 1520 Broadway Ave., Everett. Board President Lisa Hanks will speak briefly at 2 p.m.
