Front Porch: Concert celebrates American music

Concert in Snohomish
“An American Celebration Concert” is planned in Snohomish and will feature a variety of vocal styles including an American repertoire of Broadway tunes, folk songs, vocal jazz and patriotic numbers with guests such as the Rose City Mixed Quartet from Portland, Ore.
, and the Eric Verlinde Trio.
The concert starts at 7 p.m. Feb. 26 at Glacier Peak High School Performing Arts Center, 7401 144th Place SE in Snohomish. Tickets at the door are $20, $15, $10 and $60 for a family. Doors open at 6 p.m. for a silent auction.
The benefit concert supports the Patrick Castro Excellence in Vocal Music Award to raise scholarship money for students to study vocal music after their graduation.
Expect closures for the holiday. Presidents Day is Monday. Here are some scheduled closures:
Government: Federal, state and local offices will be closed.
Schools: Closed.
Garbage: Waste Management pick-ups and recycling will be on a regular schedule.
Post offices: Closed, although express mail service continues.
Commerce: Many businesses are closed, Everett and Alderwood malls will be open, most banks will be closed. State run liquor stores will be open.
Transportation: Community Transit will change some commuter trips to Seattle, but otherwise will be on a regular schedule. Everett Transit is on a holiday schedule. For ferry information, go to www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries or call 888-808-7977.
The Herald: The delivery deadline is 7:30 a.m. Classified advertising and the front lobby will be closed. Customer service for home delivery will be open from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.
