Holly Smith, a 2018 graduate of Lake Stevens High School, was awarded the Jill L. Renshaw Memorial Scholarship of $6,000. Smith plans to attend Whitworth University this fall on her path to becoming a physician.

The scholarship honors the memory of Jill Renshaw, a Lake Stevens High School graduate who died in a mountaineering accident in 1988 at the age of 18. The scholarship is awarded to Lake Stevens graduates who are “committed to improving the human condition.”

While in high school, Smith took a challenging course load, was captain of the lacrosse team, and served in leadership roles for a variety of student organizations, including the Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan (MEChA), a group for gender-sexuality awareness, and the walkout committee. Outside of school, she served as a Senate page, was part of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps, and volunteered for PAWS and other causes.
