Seems Like Yesterday

With very little work scheduled for Christmas, the American Tug Boat Co. had 20 tugs tied up at Pier 2. They were the Manila, Orinda, Forester, Streamline Peter, Sequoia, Boston, Argos, Arlyn Nelson, Margaret S., Magdalene, Condor, Gony, Gwylan, Irene, Elmore, Tillicum, Ann S., Janet W. and Mary D. Hume.

Aaron Abts, president of Everett Plywood &Door, presented a bonus to Garrett Brady, president of Local Union No. 1. The firm, a cooperative, recently signed on veteran plywood plant operator Andrew Hanzel as manager.

An era ended on Friday with the last regular weekday television show of J.P. Patches, the KIRO clown. The character, portrayed by Chris Wedes of Edmonds, would appear only on Saturdays. Every weekday for 21 years, Patches fought off the advances of Gertrude, battled Boris S. Wort and saved the Ballard Bridge from I.M. Rags.

Kenneth Nesset was named manager of the Everett branch of Washington Mutual Savings Bank. He replaced Robert Burton, who was transferred to the head office. Nesset was previously vice president and administrator of the personnel development department.
