Big position: Serves on Mukilteo School Board as a nonvoting student representative. Says the experience has opened his mind to issues, such as how school bonds and levies work, and has provided a balanced perspective to decisions affecting students.
A long road: Started at Aces after falling behind on credits at Kamiak High School. Originally wanted to go back to Kamiak once he caught up, but realized he liked his new school more. “We have to do the same work, but I like the relaxing atmosphere here.”
Jennifer Buchanan / The Herald Jonathan Locke, 18, a senior at Aces Alternative High School, serves as a student representative on the Mukilteo School Board.

End in sight: Hopes to graduate this year, but knows there are policies and regulations limiting how many credits students can earn at any given time. Says graduation will mean a lot given the distance he has come.
Rolling in the dough: Works at a Papa John’s restaurant taking orders and topping pizzas. “I got the job so I don’t have to bug my mother for money. This way I can have a good old time being a teenager, but not at her expense.”
Poet’s corner: Likes writing poetry. Favorite poets are Edgar Allan Poe and Robert Frost.
Good memories: Loved building tree forts without nails with his brother and friends as a child. Also enjoys bonfires on the Mukilteo beachfront.
Career thoughts: Would like to start a catering business and attend college to study psychology.
Favorite music Sublime, Disturbed, Black Sabbath, AC/DC and Aerosmith.
