EDMONDS — Sophomore midfielder Eddie Carli spearheaded an offensive clinic with a hat trick for the Shorecrest High School boys soccer team on Wednesday night.
Shorecrest came into the matchup deadlocked with Mountlake Terrace in the Wesco 3A/2A race, and the Scots came alive at an opportune time as it downed the Hawks 5-0 at Edmonds Stadium.
Carli netted goals in the 6th, 41st and 61st minutes while teammate and junior Wyatt Kimball tagged along with two goals of his own. Kimball’s scores came in the 52nd and 62nd.
The Scots (5-3-3 overall, 5-2-3 league) were held scoreless in three straight contests prior to Wednesday’s tilt. Terrace (4-4-3, 4-3-3) hadn’t taken a loss since March 19.
“We played a lot better today,” Shorecrest head coach Teddy Mitalas said. “And to be honest, (Eddie) was the one that helped us out. He’s has good soccer knowledge and good soccer IQ. … He adds a lot for us.”
Carli skated around multiple defenders for his first goal while the Scots held suit on the defensive end to enter intermission nursing a 1-0 advantage. He wasted no time in the second half, sending in his second score in the first minute of action.
“We needed something to boost us (and) after the first one we kind felt some freedom,” Carli said. “And we were to pile on a few more. Mountlake Terrace is a good team, and I think we did well to be able to put those scores on them.”
Carli’s offensive explosion rubbed off on the Scots throughout the second half as Kimball broke free for both his scores post-halftime. After Carli topped off his hat trick in the 61st, Kimball turned around and supplied the knockout punch in 62nd.
“Before the game we talked about how we haven’t been able to score in three games,” Carli said. “I think that was something that helped us throughout the game. … We’re super happy as a team, it’ll be good for future games coming up.”
