EVERETT — Snohomish County’s Executive Director for Economic Development Mike Fong has moved into a new role that places him in charge of building Everett’s economic base by convincing companies that the city is a good place to do business.
Fong will become Everett’s senior executive director for economic development and opportunity starting on Feb. 9, the city of Everett announced in a press release Friday.
Fong, in an emailed response to questions from the Daily Herald, said he will be directing efforts to help existing businesses grow in Everett while also focusing on attracting new entrepreneurs and companies.
“I know the city stands ready to deliver efficient services and supports that are necessary to create jobs and economic opportunity,” he said.
Fong will be joining the city of Everett ahead of the retirement of long-time city employee Lori Cummings, who is the current executive director for economic development, according to the city press release.
Fong will remain in his county role until the beginning of February. He started in the Snohomish County position in January 2025.
Fong has served as director of the Washington State Department of Commerce from May 2023 to January 2025.
Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Fong left his county role on Jan. 9. He will remain until the beginning of February.
