Everett mayor

Age: 57

Occupation: Musician

Political experience: None

Work experience: Manager and overseer of small business for two years. Trainer and supervisor in mental health field.

Personal experience: Training, organizing, directing and conducting musical productions.

Top 3 issues: 1. Traffic – there needs to be less traffic on residential streets. 2. Proposed arena – don’t believe it’s being built at the right spot. 3. Waterfront project – more public input with city officials responsible to fulfill wishes of citizens.

Why voters should pick me: For too long now, city officials have listened and obeyed only the big property owners, ignoring the wishes and demands of the general populace. I promise to listen and encourage citizens to be active in all city decisions and that quality-of-life issues remain on top.

Fun facts: Volunteer with church missions for elder care and homeless, and Helper Of People With Aids.

Age: 61

Occupation: Mayor of Everett

Political experience: Almost eight years as mayor. Eight years as Snohomish County Democratic chairman.

Work experience: Almost eight years of “on-the-job” experience; two years as legislative assistant to U.S. Sen. Henry M. Jackson; 25 years practicing law here; 10 years as attorney for Port of Everett.

Personal experience: Co-founder and board member of Frontier Bank; co-founder and managing partner of Harbour Pointe Golf Club

Top 3 issues: 1. Traffic congestion: Although transportation funding is primarily state responsibility, city projects under construction include Everett Station and Pacific Avenue overpass. Both projects on schedule and within budget. 2. Public safety: This will continue to be a top priority of mine to provide funds needed by police and fire departments. 3. Quality of life: Includes a good job with family wages, a clean and safe environment and a variety of recreational activities.

Why voters should pick me: On-the-job experience and proven record, including: restoring city’s financial position; building south Everett police precinct; creating four ball fields and six resurfaced soccer fields; building Everett Station and Pacific Avenue overpass; creating Lowell Riverfront trail; adding three park sites, a third EMS unit, skate park and code compliance department.

Fun fact: Local, state, regional, and national bowling championships resulting in membership in Washington State Bowling Hall of Fame.

Age: 41

Occupation: Professional electrical and software engineer

Political experience: Delegate to 1980 county convention. Neighborhood associations, written letters and spoken at meetings and hearings on issues of concern, particularly regarding neighborhood “quality-of-life” issues such as public open space, parks, traffic and waterfront redevelopment.

Work experience: As an engineer, I fix what doesn’t work, build what the customer wants, and do it all with careful attention to budget and schedule.

Personal experience: Redevelopment of the waterfront is a key issue, both for jobs and for recreation. I have walked the entire 10 miles of the Everett waterfront several times.

Top 3 issues: 1. Open government: I will include the citizens in all important decisions, particularly regarding land development. I will disclose all costs associated with any project. 2. Business: The backbone of our economy is small businesses, industrial as well as retail. We must especially protect and strengthen our established light-industrial neighborhoods. 3. Waterfront: The shoreline plan is not a done deal. I will work for stronger environmental protection and more public access along the river and estuary.

Why voters should pick me: This is an historic time in determining the future character of our waterfront and downtown core. As an engineer, I have experience balancing competing requirements to achieve the best overall result. I have no financial interest in city decisions and will promote only the interests of the majority of citizens.

Fun facts: I enjoy restoring old machines and using them. If you see a guy in an old “deuce-and-a-half” army truck driving around town, that’s probably me.

Age: 32

Occupation: Entrepreneur

Political experience: None

Work experience: Owner: Creation Studios, a recording and graphics studio. President of G.E.C. Energy systems, a commercial boiler company. CEO for Systems 4, a bio-chemical company. Helped many entrepreneurs start up companies.

Personal experience: I have always been a person who creates excitement in doing things better, encouraging all around me to dream and let the dream become reality. I am a motivator, a leader and advocate who is always there to listen and guide.

Top 3 issues: 1. Teens / young adults: create a center with food, live music, pool, other related games and activities. Build a hub for educational and inspirational input from community and business. 2. Growth / Prosperity: bring vision to Everett, organize, create new events for downtown and the waterfront. Bring 21st century vision with respect for the history Everett provides. 3. Traffic: there are no words to describe the stresses of driving.

Why voters should pick me: I have a vision for Everett that combines good leadership with common sense. To build and create growth, not destroy. A vision for our youth to give them a place in this community. To be a listener of the community and their advocate to get this traffic problem resolved ASAP.

Fun Fact: I am a music composer/writer and multi-instrumentalist. I have released seven albums.
