Kamiak ekes out win in 11 innings

MUKILTEO – Kamiak and Edmonds-Woodway went 10 innings without scoring a run before the game was decided by a tiebreaker Friday night.

Under the international tiebreaker, a runner is placed on second base at the start of each inning after the 10th.

The Warriors were unable to capitalize, but Marissa Lyons used her speed to score the game winning run off of a single by Alyssa Malland (2-for-4 batting) in the bottom of the 11th to give the Knights a 1-0 Wesco South victory.

Both teams used one pitcher for all 11 innings. Emily Dean struck out 11 batters for Edmonds-Woodway. Kamiak’s Kate Defenbach scattered six hits.

“It was a long battle,” Kamiak head coach Bill Bowker said. “The pitchers showed incredible stamina to go 11 innings.”
