What’s in a name?: Klix is of German ancestry and her first name, Anea, recognizes her great aunt. “She lived in Denmark and took care of orphans. I like it.”

Home grown: “I have lived in the same house in Lake Stevens my whole life.”

Entrepreneur at heart: Will be vice president of her school’s DECA marketing chapter next year and has participated in the organization, formerly known as Distributive Education Clubs of America, every semester since her freshmen year.

Advanced to national competitions as freshman and sophomore in Salt Lake City and Orlando. “They are some of the best memories of my life.”

Parents are small business owners and Anea hopes to attend University of Washington and major in business.

Run like a business: DECA students run three school businesses and work on a variety of other marketing projects. “The teachers are there to help us, but we are there to make the decisions. We have been very successful.”

Work ethic at school: Earns good grades with solid course load that included college-level Advanced Placement calculus as a junior. Schedule will include University of Washington extension class in English next fall.

And beyond: Also juggles academic schedule to work as a hostess at a pizza parlor several days a week.

“I feel so welcome. I have become friends with so many of the people I work with.”

Organization is key: Friends call her a “neat freak,” but being organized has served her well over the years.

“I have been making my bed since I was 3. Nobody told me to. My room is spotless. … My friends think I am crazy.”

In between time: Has participated in ballet since third grade. Will be a camp counselor this summer. Enjoys travel and time with friends.

Favorite author: Kurt Vonnegut. “I like him because he is quirky, kind of like me.”
