Life is good: Loves school, playing catcher on the school’s baseball team and his community. “I don’t want to leave high school. There are a bunch of people I will miss. … The friends I have here are friends for life.”
Plans for next year: Has been accepted to University of Washington and Willamette University and is waiting to hear from Stanford University.
Tough load: Is taking college-level advanced-placement biology, calculus and English courses as well as government and astronomy. May challenge national advanced-placement history exam without taking the course.
Tight squeeze: Took four years of Japanese beginning in eighth grade. Had to drop Japanese this year to fit in student government. Is student body treasurer, a nonelected position he had to apply and interview for.
More leadership: Is president of the school’s Future Business Leaders of America chapter. Is working on increasing membership. Enjoys the regional competitions against other schools.
Fond memories: Likes new Arlington High campus that opened last year, but misses the old campus in town. “I really liked the old A building, believe it or not, even though it was … falling apart. The smell of the science building is something you don’t forget. At least I got a touch of the heritage.”
Rural roots: Lives in historic Bryant area north of Arlington. “You definitely feel part of the community, and we do things with a bunch of other families.”
Other interests: Paintball, played varsity tennis, learning to use new camera.
Favorite authors: R.A. Salvatore, J.R.R. Tolkien, Ayn Rand, George Orwell, William Shakespeare and Stephen King.
Favorite movies: Works at Hollywood Video and lists “Anchorman,” “The Girl Next Door,” “Full Metal Jacket” as favorites.
Big brother: Has four siblings. Oldest, Lyndsy, is a freshman at the high school. Andrew tries to watch out for her at school. “No one else can pick on her, just me.”
