Her hometown: Has family roots dating back generations in Darrington and loves her hometown. “You just know everybody. It’s a really close community. There are a lot of activities you can get involved in.”
College plans: Wants to start at Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon and transfer to Washington State University. Is considering an education major but also wants to study agriculture.
Farm living: Grew up on a farm raising beef cattle. Always enjoyed feeding calves as a youngster.
Round ball: Played several sports, but basketball was her favorite. Probably won’t turn out at community college because of the long commute and time commitment, but would like to come back to help at her high school.
Making her pitch: Is on high school’s softball team, which needed another pitcher this spring. “I actually pitched this year, but I always considered myself a shortstop.
Tasty treat: A favorite dish is freshly-made blackberry gravy over biscuits.
Car care: Likes her job stocking shelves and in customer service at a NAPA Auto Parts store in Darrington on weekends and during the summer.
Friendly critters: Has a horse named Rose and three dogs, including Zip, who at 11 is slowing down, but “still has some (zip) when he sees a cat.”
Favorite book: “The Body of Christopher Creed” by Carol Plum-Ucci.
Musical tastes: Loves country music, especially Tim McGraw.
Staying challenged: Is taking three college-level Advanced Placement classes in physics, calculus and literature. Favorite subject is physics, “something that seems to click for me.”
Fond memories: Always liked Fourth of July parade in town and hopes to return to Darrington as an adult. “It’s really a great community. People come together and the kids here are really nice.”
