Man dies after being struck by train in Edmonds

EDMONDS — A 35-year-old Mountlake Terrace man died in Edmonds Friday morning after being hit by a freight train.

The train operator spotted the man standing on the tracks and repeatedly sounded the train’s horn. The man did not move and the train was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting him, Edmonds police Sgt. Mark Marsh said.

The man died at the scene. He was later identified as Rick Karma Sun, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The incident happened in the 500 block of Sunset Avenue, just north of Main Street. All train and ferry traffic nearby was stopped for hours.
