Jazz students receive awards at Hampton fest

The Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival was held Feb. 23-24 in Moscow, Idaho.
Edmonds-Woodway High School’s Jazz Ensemble I finished the weekend as the High School Instrumental Sweepstakes winner.
The school’s instrumental Purple Combo, Jazz Ensemble II and Jazz I Green Combo also took home awards. In addition, Edmonds-Woodway tenor Dominic Nye and soprano Unathi Machyo were vocal solo winners. Nye also was awarded a scholarship. And baritone saxophonist Kyle Bainbridge was a senior instrumental soloist winner.
Also that weekend, the Jackson High School Jazz Choir was the 4A winner for multi-mic vocal ensembles. The Mountlake Terrace High School Jazz Ensemble I was an honorable mention for instrumental groups.
