Historical museum anniversary
The Lake Stevens Historical Museum is turning 30, and it is throwing a celebration. All are welcome to join the party at 2 p.m. Sunday for pie and refreshments.
View photos, articles and a timeline of how the community pulled together to build the museum. Guests may submit a pie for a contest. Entries must be there by 2 p.m. Prizes will be handed out at 3 p.m.

Salmon, Steelhead & Trout Celebration
An auction will benefit the Northwest Stream Center from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at 600 128th St. SE. Funds go toward fixing a damaged roof and failed heat unit at the center’s headquarters. Entry costs $30. The events will include local wine, food and jazz from the Tim Koss Trio.
Up for auction will include tickets to zoos, aquariums, and athletic events; fishing gear; a one-hour flight for two from Paine Field; sports memorabilia; adventure vacations and hotel stays.

Dwarf conifer class
Author Robert Fincham will give a rundown of conifers that stay reliably dwarf and are suitable for smaller gardens at 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Evergreen Arboretum & Gardens, 145 Alverson Blvd., Everett. These evergreens come in a wide range of colors, shapes and growth rates. The author of “Small Conifers for Small Gardens” will have books for sale at this class. Meet in the horticultural classroom, No. 105. Reserve a seat at 425-257-8597.
Tanktoberfest
Historic tanks will be in action, in an event paired with craft beer, food trucks and more Saturday afternoon at the Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum, 3407 109th St. SW, Everett.
Sample from a wide range of beers from Boundary Bay, Diamond Knot, Lake Stevens, Lazy Boy, Menace, Sumerian, Timber Monster, Whitewall, At Large, Brew Bakers, Flycaster, Dystopian State, as well as beverages by James Bay Distillery, Skip Rock Distillers and Elemental Cider.
Doors open at noon. Tank demonstrations are scheduled every half-hour. Tickets are $20 to $50, and must be bought online.
Week in Review taping
KUOW’s Week in Review, a public radio program hosted by Bill Radke, aims to make sense of what just happened around Puget Sound and the world. On Thursday evening, it will be taped outside of the studio, at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 4th Avenue N. The event is 7 to 9 p.m., with a chance to meet the crew afterward.
Featured guests this week are Brandi Kruse, correspondent at Q13; Charles Mudede, a writer for The Stranger; and Rick Steves, hometown travel expert and tour guide.
Meeting for special needs students
Dana Geaslen, the Edmonds School District’s director of student services, will join other administrators from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 2 in the Educational Service Center board rooms for the first meeting of the Special Education Advisory Council. Childcare and language interpretation services are provided.
