Coffee with a cop
Oct. 2 is National Coffee with a Cop Day, a community outreach campaign to break down barriers between law enforcement and the public. The interaction in a casual setting allows for open communication and trust to build over a cup of coffee.
Join Mill Creek police from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Oct. 2. at Buffalo Espresso, 15109 35th Ave. SE; Starbucks Town Center, 15517 Main St.; and Starbucks Murphy’s Corner, 2130 132nd St. SE.
Meet Mukilteo Police Chief Cheol Kang and members of the department from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Oct. 2. at the Starbucks at 10100 Mukilteo Speedway.

Passes for fourth-graders and friends
Fourth-graders can get a free annual pass to more than 2,000 federal recreation areas with their families, classmates and friends.
To obtain the free pass, fourth-grade students go to the Every Kid Outdoors website, participate in a short educational activity and download a voucher. The voucher is valid for multiple uses between Sept. 1 and Aug. 31, 2020.
It may be exchanged for a keepsake pass at participating federal lands agencies. The voucher or pass grants free entry for fourth-graders, all children under 16 in the group and up to three accompanying adults (or an entire car for drive-in parks) to most federally managed lands and waters.
Seven federal agencies participate in the Every Kid Outdoors program: the Forest Service; the National Park Service; the Fish and Wildlife Service; the Bureau of Land Management; the Bureau of Reclamation; the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The pass does not cover camping or boat rides.
Buy a rain barrel
Everett Public Works holds sales for residents to purchase rain barrels. The next one is from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at 3200 Cedar St. Each 55-gallon barrel comes with a spigot, overflow, and double screen on top to keep out debris and bugs. CASA Free Microchip Clinic
CASA, the Camano Animal Shelter Association, is having a free microchip clinic from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m Oct. 5 at the shelter on East Camano Drive. Thanks to donors, the free microchip clinic is available to the public. Unlike collars and tags, microchips can’t be removed and add a lifetime of additional security. If your pet goes missing, a microchip may be the only thing left linking them to you. The clinic is for cats and dogs only. Cats must arrive in a carrier and dogs must be leashed.
