Second chance sales

The 2nd Chance Thrift Shop’s annual Everything Christmas Sale is from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island.

Community folk dance

Oktoberfest, a community folk dance with music from Allspice Band, will be presented by Sno-King dancers and Northwest Folkdancers, Inc. from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday. It’s at the Cedar Valley Grange, 20526 52nd Ave. W, Lynnwood.

The event features members from several international folk dance clubs. There will be couple, set and no-partner dances from many countries. No need to bring a partner. Potluck foods and costumes encouraged. Donation of $8.

Viking Hall fundraiser

Join the Silvana Community Association for an open house from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at Viking Hall, 1331 Pioneer Highway, Stanwood.

All are welcome to join for a dessert social, with only homemade baked goods. Rentals at the Silvana Viking Hall are down this year, and the group hopes to raise money to keep it running.

OPPORTUNITY

Holiday card design contest

The Lynnwood Convention Center is seeking creative middle and high school students to help design the artwork for its 2019 holiday greeting card. The contest is open to all private or public middle and high school students enrolled in a school located in the Edmonds School District.

The winner gets $150 and 25 greeting cards. Deadline is Nov. 4.

Support groups for brain-incident survivors and their caregivers meet regularly across Snohomish County.

SAVE THE DATE

Owls

Paul Bannick, award-winning author and photographer of “Owl: A Year in the Life of North American Owls” and “The Owl and the Woodpecker,” will offer a free presentation at 2 p.m. Oct. 27 in the Everett Public Library auditorium at 2702 Hoyt Ave.

Bannick’s work can be found in many bird guides, including Audubon, Peterson and the National Wildlife Federation. It has been featured in The New York Times, Sunset magazine and other publications.

The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Everett Public Library.
