Meet the candidates
The Mukilteo Chamber of Commerce is hosting a candidate forum from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave.
Candidates for the Mukilteo City Council, Mukilteo School District and Mukilteo Water & Wastewater District commissioner will be asked questions from the audience.
This is a free event.
Coffee with a cop
Officers from the Lynnwood Police Department and community members are invited to discuss local issues, build relationships and drink coffee from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Lynnwood Crossroads Starbucks, 6208 196th St. SW.
Coffee with a Cop provides an opportunity for people to ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in Lynnwood’s neighborhoods. The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and residents one cup of coffee at a time.
Spooky Slime
Make spooky, goopy, fun slime from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd.
Learn about non-Newtonian fluids while you make and experiment with slime. The event is for ages 5 to 11. This free program is made possible by funding from Sno-Isle Libraries and the Friends of the Mukilteo Library.

County budget hearings
The Snohomish County Council has scheduled two hearings Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. to gather input about County Executive Dave Somers’ proposed 2020 budget.
Somers released a plan last month with $268 million in general fund spending. It includes no increase in the general property-tax levy, but does include a 1% increase in the levy for road work paid by property owners in unincorporated areas. Priorities include public safety, affordable housing and improving the environment.
The council could adopt its version of the annual budget as early as Oct. 30.
This week’s hearings are to take place in council chambers, on the eighth floor of the county’s Robert J. Drewel building, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.

Chili chow-down
The Camano Chamber of Commerce is having its 24th annual Chili & Chowder Cook-Off from 3 to 7 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Camano Center. In recognition of Veterans Day, all veterans and first responders get in for $5.
Free park-ing
The next day to visit Washington state parks without an entrance fee is Nov. 11, Veterans Day. The final free day of 2019 is Nov. 29.
