Free hiking
Entrance is free during December at the Adopt A Stream Foundation’s 20-acre Northwest Stream Center at McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. Enjoy a half-mile nature walk on an elevated trail through forest and wetlands. Check out the trout stream exhibit and nature store. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

Free park-ing
Visit a Washington State Park for free Jan. 1. The next free day after that is Jan. 20, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There are free days throughout the year where no Discover Pass is required.

Peace walk
The Caroll Cochran Annual Peace Walk in Index is 12:30 p.m. Jan. 1 at the Doolittle Pioneer Park pavilion, 308 Fifth St. The Seattle Peace Chorus Action Ensemble will lead marchers in songs.
Winter walk
A guided walk sponsored by Friends of Camano Island Parks is 9:50 a.m. to noon Jan. 4. Meet at the picnic shelter near the boat ramp at south beach at Camano Island State Park, 2269 Lowell Point Road.
The walk has two elevation gains of about 50 feet with the rest of the walk fairly level. The trail is 2.6 miles long with views of Saratoga Passage and Elger Bay, including a walk through a fern grotto and a ravine. The almost two-hour walk takes place rain or shine. Trail booklets and maps will be available for a suggested $1 donation.

Garden variety questions
Everybody is welcome to join the Snohomish Garden Club at a meeting 7 p.m. Jan. 13 at the senior center, 506 Fourth St., Snohomish. A panel of gardening experts will be on hand to discuss gardening problems and answer audience questions.
The mission of the club is to stimulate knowledge and love of gardening, to aid in the protection of native trees, plants and birds and to encourage civic planting. Meetings are held the second Monday of the month from September through May, except December.

Fun British men
The Mossyback Morris Men will perform at a free event at Everett Public Library at 2 p.m. Jan. 12 in the auditorium at 2702 Hoyt Ave.
Looking like deranged chimney sweeps, the Mossyback Morris Men perform an ancient British form of ritual dance called “The Morris,” which celebrates the good earth and its seasons. Their spirited dances include large sticks which they clash together, handkerchiefs for flicking the devil in the eye, suspenders, colored streamers and jingling bells on their shins. The Morris is a mix of street theater and dance that has been performed for centuries to spread good cheer within the darkness of winter. After their performance, the group will greet the audience and answer any questions about the Morris, life and the universe.
