Gilday widens lead on Homola for House seat in 10th District

EVERETT — Republican Greg Gilday widened his lead on Democrat Angie Homola Monday as ballot counting continued in their battle for an open seat in the 10th Legislative District.

Gilday, who trailed Homola on Election Day, moved in front Saturday and led by 528 votes following the latest update of results. He has 50.2% to her 49.6%, a margin just outside the range triggering an automatic recount.

Gilday, of Camano Island, and Homola, of Oak Harbor, are competing to succeed retiring Republican Rep. Norma Smith for a two-year term serving residents of Island County and parts of north Snohomish and south Skagit counties.

Contests for the district’s other two legislative seats are close as well.

Sen. Ron Muzzall, R-Oak Harbor, is holding off Democratic challenger Helen Price Johnson of Clinton, 50.7% to 49.2% while Rep. Dave Paul, D-Oak Harbor, is ahead of Republican challenger Bill Bruch of La Conner by a margin of 50.6% to 49.4%.

Election results will be updated Tuesday in Snohomish and Skagit counties.

Island County’s next and final update is set for Nov. 24, the day all counties must certify results of this election.
