Motorcyclist identified in deadly I-5 crash near Marysville

MARYSVILLE — A motorcyclist died in a multiple-vehicle collision that shut down southbound I-5 on Tuesday morning near Marysville, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Around 2:30 a.m., a man on a Honda sport bike was traveling at high speed when he crossed lanes and ran into the rear driver side of a Jeep Wrangler on the highway south of Highway 531, trooper Kelsey Harding said.

The motorcyclist was then struck by a Peterbilt semi truck driven by a Stanwood man, 45.

The Jeep driver, 52, of Spokane, called 911.

The deceased man was identified as Christopher Salge, 40, of Arlington, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office. He died at the scene from blunt force injuries.

Southbound lanes reopened around 9:30 a.m.

Salge was a father, Navy veteran and gymnastics coach, according to his social media pages.

On his LinkedIn, he wrote that he was a manager for Boeing who worked on the 777 and 777X in Everett.
