EVERETT — Everett police are investigating a pedestrian death after a man was struck by a vehicle and allegedly dragged about a mile Sunday morning in south Everett.

At about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Everett police and emergency responders responded to the report of a person laying on the side of road in the 8500 block of 7th Avenue Southeast in Everett. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, a press release said Wednesday evening.

Police determined the Everett man was hit by a vehicle in the area of Casino Road and 5th Avenue West. The vehicle continued to drive after the collision, resulting in the victim ending on 7th Avenue Southeast, police said.

On Tuesday, investigators identified the suspect vehicle and a potential driver. Police impounded the suspect vehicle.

This comes after detectives from Everett Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit collected evidence from community members, video from surrounding businesses and data from the department’s FLOCK camera system, the press release said.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death. Everett police have tentatively identified the victim and Everett Police Chief John DeRousse has updated the family on the case.

“This is a complicated incident, and a thorough investigation will take some time,” the release said. “Once completed, it will be forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for review. At this point, no charges have been filed.”

Anybody with information about the incident can call the Everett Police Department at 425-257-8450.

Correction: A previous version of this story listed the incorrect distance that a pedestrian was allegedly dragged by a vehicle. The distance was approximately 1 mile.
