EVERETT — A fire gutted a building along Broadway in Everett on Monday night, sending flames into the sky and blanketing downtown with smoke.

The blaze in the building in the 2900 block of Broadway went to three alarms before the structure collapsed on itself at about 11 p.m.

One person was rescued from the second floor, but there were no immediate reports of injuries, Everett Assistant Fire Marshal Steve Goforth said.

The fire was reported about 10 p.m. in a building that had housed Everett Office Furniture.

That structure appeared to have collapsed in the blaze, and it was unlikely that firefighters would be able to enter until sometime Wednesday, Goforth said.

When fire crews arrived at the scene, they found flames visible on the east side of the structure. As the blaze grew, firefighters from Marysville and Fire District 1 joined in the battle.

The fire broke out in a building that was immediately east of Xfinity Arena, where people had gathered Monday evening for a recreational hockey game. They stepped out into a street filled with fire trucks, smoke and back lit by flames.
