Upcoming pancake breakfasts
Edmonds: 8:30-9:30 a.m. Jan. 4 (first Friday) at the Edmonds Senior Center, 220 Railroad Ave. Pancakes, strawberry compote, eggs, ham, biscuits and sausage gravy, beverages. Cost is $5.
Bothell: 8-11 a.m. Jan. 5 and 19 (first and third Saturdays) at the Northshore Senior Center, 10201 E Riverside Drive. Pancakes, eggs, ham (first Saturday) or sausage (third Saturday), coffee or tea, and orange juice. Cost is $5.
Snohomish: 8:30-10:30 a.m. Jan. 5 (first Saturday) at the Snohomish Senior Center, 506 Fourth St. Pancakes or French toast, sausage or ham, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs and beverages. Cost is $5, $3 for kids age 10 and younger.
Lake Stevens: A Norwegian Pancake Breakfast is served 7:30-10:30 a.m. Jan. 19 (third Saturday, September to May) at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 2111 117th Ave. NE. Cost is $6; children under age 5 are free.
Monroe: 8-10 a.m. Jan. 19 (third Saturday) at the Monroe Community Senior Center, 276 Sky River Parkway. Pancakes or French toast, eggs, ham or sausage, beverages. Cost is $5, $3 under age 12.

Genealogy 101
Sno-Isle Genealogical Society will offer a free beginning genealogy class, 10-11 a.m. Saturday (and every first Saturday) at the SIGS Research Library, 19827 Poplar Way in Lynnwood’s Heritage Park.
Small-business workshop
A small-business workshop from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 8 aims to help businesses with federal taxes. The free session at the Mountlake Terrace Library covers business codes, deducting expenses, the difference between employees and contractors, estimated tax payments, and more. The class is taught by Rizwan Chaudhry of NW Accountants.
Heads Up
On Jan. 2, the city of Everett will begin work at the intersection of Evergreen Way and Casino Road to replace a water main. Work will occur at night and is expected to last until Jan. 10. Trees to chips
Beginning Wednesday, bring your Christmas trees to the Everett Community College through the end of January. The facilities and grounds department will recycle them for free, using the woodchips for campus flower beds and mulch. The trees must be free of decorations, tinsel and other non-biodegradable materials. No flocked trees will be accepted. Trees can be dropped off between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays in parking lot F.
Help make music
The Snohomish County Music Project welcomes volunteers. There are opportunities for audio-visual engineers, carpenters, event coordinators, painters and more. The Music Project is a nonprofit that focuses on making communities stronger through music. Programs include music lessons for children, and group music therapy for veterans and seniors.
