EVERETT — The Federal Transit Administration awarded $24 million to transit agencies in Snohomish County on Thursday, funding the purchase of hybrid-electric buses.
The grant awards, announced in a press release Friday by Rep. Rick Larsen, D-Everett, will go toward both Everett Transit and Community Transit. Everett Transit will receive $10.1 million, Community Transit will receive $14.0 million.
With that funding, Everett Transit will be able to pay for nine hybrid-electric buses, said Mike Schmieder, the agency’s director, in a press release. Community Transit will purchase 12 buses with the funds, an agency spokesperson wrote Friday.
“This critical funding will allow local transit agencies to reduce carbon emissions and maintenance costs while ensuring riders continue to have reliable, accessible transportation options,” Larsen wrote in the release Friday.
