TULALIP — A woman drove off a cliff and plummeted to her death into the shallow water of Possession Sound off the Tulalip Reservation on Sunday, police said.

Around 12:15 p.m. Sunday, the woman, 56, drove off the road in the 300 block of Priest Point Drive NW, said Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Courtney O’Keefe.

The car fell 70 to 80 feet into shallow water along the beach below.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, O’Keefe said. She was the only person in the car.

Detectives continued investigating the cause of the crash Monday. The woman’s steep driveway is near where she drove off the road, O’Keefe said.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the woman and determine the official cause of death.
