Relative of missing Oregon boy starts serving molestation sentence

EVERETT — A relative of a missing Portland, Ore., boy was booked Wednesday into the Snohomish County Jail on charges unrelated to the boy’s disappearance.

Police near Portland have been looking for 7-year-old Kyron Horman since June 4. No suspects in his disappearance have been announced.

The boy’s uncle, Kristian Scott Horman, was convicted of third-degree child molestation on Wednesday and began serving a six-month sentence, officials said.

Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said the charges stem from a 2008 incident involving a female relative.

Intense media scrutiny in the Kyron Horman’s disappearance unleashed a flood of interest in the jail booking for Kristian Scott Horman, Hover said.

Reporters were hunting for a link, she said.

“It’s a different victim,” Hover said.

Snohomish County detectives plan to share information about their 2008 case with officials in Multnomah County, where the investigation into Kyron Horman’s disappearance is underway.
