Helicopter rescues man on Mount Pilchuck

UPDATE, 2:50 p.m. July 23: The teen was found safely later Monday night. He had been stung by bees and injured his knee. They were on the shore, not rafting, as initially reported.

VERLOT — Rescue crews were busy Monday in the hiking and outdoors areas east of Granite Falls.

The Snohomish County sheriff’s helicopter rescue team plucked a 50-year-old man with a back injury off Mount Pilchuck about 4:30 p.m., Lt. Steve Dittoe said. The man’s injury had been reported about 3:10 p.m. The man was expected to survive.

Around 4:40 p.m., volunteer firefighters in the Monte Cristo area asked for the sheriff’s team’s help finding a 13-year-old boy. Initial reports were that the boy was on a rafting trip and seriously hurt his leg, Dittoe said. The boy was with his group in a remote area away from the main road.

The search was ongoing as of 6 p.m. Monday.
