The 2024 Land Rover Defender 110 S is a luxury, next-level, sports utility vehicle that is sure to impress.

My tester landed in the driveway the week of Christmas. Not a bad little present.

Defender comes in 90, 110 and 130 trims, each with a distinct list of features and specifications designed for superior on road comfort, and unsurpassed off-road capability.

Powered by a a MHEV 3.0-liter, six-cylinder gas engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the combo delivers 395 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. Defender ensconces five adults in lavish fashion, while delivering 18 miles per gallon fuel economy down the highway.

The Defender can tow up to 8,200 lbs , meaning everything from jet skis, boats and trailers can be towed with ease. Hitching is made simpler by the air suspension, with switches inside the tailgate to raise and lower the rear of the vehicle.

The Defender 110 S exterior stands out from the crowd wherever it goes. It has a subtle, purposeful look enhanced with a “Fuji White” coat of enamel, black accents, panoramic moonroof, LED headlights with signature DRL, front fog lights, 19-inch wheels and black roof rails.

Adding to the vehicle’s go-anywhere versatility are standard all-wheel drive with twin-speed transfer box, “Terrain Response” with selectable driving and off-road modes, hill descent control, and coil suspension.

Optional equipment included a cold climate pack, advanced off-road capability pack, off-road pack, and air suspension pack adding over $10,000 to the bottom line. Highlights include heated windscreen and washer jets, headlight power wash, electronic active differential, County exterior pack, three-zone climate control, 20-inch spare wheel, and heated rear seats with center armrest.

The ultimate expression of Defender’s breadth of talents are its dimensions. 110 S provides almost 47 cubic feet of storage space five five passengers. With the rear seats folded flat, the number increases to almost 89 cubic feet, easily accommodating everything from wetsuits and kit bags to camping and climbing gear.

Inside the cabin, luxury and dynamism come courtesy of 14-way heated and cooled electric driver memory seats trimmed with Windsor leather. Other goodies include a premium Meridian sound system with 400 watts and 10 speakers, head-up display, award-winning infotainment system, ambient lighting, cabin air purification plus, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, XM satellite radio, interactive driver display, Bluetooth and USB ports.

Driving down the road provided the feeling of being bullet proof. The Defender 110 S provided a quiet, smooth, drive with premium placed on safety in all conditions. And with good reason. Defender is loaded with safety equipment.

Driver assistance features included emergency braking, blind spot assist, 3D surround camera, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, rear traffic monitor, 360-degree parking aid, traffic sign recognition, perimetric alarm and wade sensing in up to almost three-feet of water.

Other technology includes remote start, dynamic stability control, electronic traction control, roll stability control, and a stolen vehicle locator.
