EVERETT — Everett police arrested a man on suspicion of homicide after he allegedly sold drugs to a woman who later died from an overdose, authorities wrote in a release Monday.

In May, police responded to a report of an overdose in the 2600 block of Marine View Drive where they found a woman in her 40s who died following the overdose, the release said.

According to police, witnesses said a man sold drugs to the woman prior to her death. Surveillance footage also showed the transaction, police said.

Everett police said the drugs the man sold to the woman led to her death, known as controlled substance homicide under state law. On June 23, officers with the department’s Community Response Team interviewed a man and charged him with selling the drugs that killed the woman, the release said. He was already in jail after Tulalip Tribal police arrested him for unrelated drug crimes on June 21, booking records show.

The police department’s Community Response Team conducts proactive drug-related investigations.

“These types of drug investigations can be difficult, but the officers in our Community Response Team worked hard to collect the evidence and do the interviews necessary to tie this dealer to the death of someone they provided with illegal drugs,” Everett Police Chief John DeRousse wrote in the release.

The man remains in the Snohomish County Jail on more than $1 million bond, records show.
