MARYSVILLE — Autumn is here and The Plant Farm at Smokey Point wants to help people continue to enjoy their gardens.
People might believe that it’s the time of year to put their landscaping to bed for the cold months. That’s not true, according to Susie Flores, the plant farm’s general manager.
“The fall is one of the best times to plant,” she said. “It’s one of the prettiest and one of the most colorful times for trees and shrubs.”
The Plant Farm at Smokey Point located at 15022 Twin Lakes Ave. plans to host two free October seminars for those who want to learn tips to keep their gardens out of hibernation.
The first seminar at 11 a.m. on Oct. 1 is set to feature a demonstration by Annie Reiss from Skagit Gardens on creating fall container gardens. Master gardener Bob Barca is also scheduled on 11 a.m. on Oct. 22 to share the best plant fall and winter plant combinations to use in gardens at a second seminar.
The Plant Farm at Smokey Point Kids’ Club started in January and since then has scheduled an activity every month, Flores said. The next activity at 11 a.m. on Oct. 8 involves decorating pumpkins and learning about what the fall harvest brings. The cost to participate is $5 per child.
Registration is not required for either of the two gardening seminars but is required for the Kids’ Club Pumpkin Painting event.
