Edmonds-Woodway edges Kamiak, 47-43

MUKILTEO – Edmonds-Woodway remained near the top of the Western Conference South with a 47-43 victory over the Kamiak Knights Tuesday night at Kamiak.

Fourth-quarter free-throws were the key to the victory as Edmonds-Woodway made four of six shots from the line to Kamiaks’ two of four.

With 30 seconds remaining in the game, Kamiak (5-4 in league, 7-4 overall) was leading by one point when Edmonds-Woodway’s Jason Hopkins hit a 17-foot shot to give the Warriors a one-point lead. Teammate Mackenzie Thomas then nailed two free throws to seal the victory.

Kamiak’s season-leading scorer, Tyler Martinez, was shut out, leaving teammate Gary Rogers to lead the Knights with a team-high 12 points and five rebounds. Additionally, Kamiak’s Steven Murphy scored 11 points with 12 rebounds, but their efforts failed to fend off Edmonds-Woodway (7-2, 9-2).

Hopkins scored a game-high 14 points.

“It was a pretty evenly matched game, just back and forth,” Kamiak coach Jeff Leary said. “We were averaging about 65 points per game, but probably not anymore.”
