Knights’ bench comes through in 2 OT win

MUKILTEO – Needing an extra boost from its bench players, Kamiak’s Danny Carl stepped up and gave the Knights the energy and momentum they needed.

Carl scored all five of his points in the extra periods and took a momentum changing charge late in the game to lead the Knights to a 76-68 double overtime victory over Marysville-Pilchuck on Saturday night.

Carl, Daniel Dawson and Kyle Stewart, all seniors, stepped in for Sean Hermes, Mark Iddins and Billy Johnson, who had all fouled out, and ignited Kamiak’s 16-point second overtime.

“They really stepped up huge, they knocked down free throws, and took charges,” said Kamiak assistant coach Cory West.

The Knights and Tomahawks had battled back and forth throughout the first five periods.

Ben Iddins led the Knights with 21 points and five steals.

Jared Stohl continued his hot streak scoring 21 for the Tomahawks.

Master’s Touch 61, Quilcene 59: Kyle Olin stole the ball and scored on a driving layup at the buzzer to lift Master’s Touch to the victory in a non-league game.

Olin, who scored a game-high 47 points, hit a 3-pointer with about 20 seconds to play in the fourth quarter to tie the score. He had 30 points in the second half as Master’s Touch rallied after trailing by 17 points midway through the third quarter .

”He does that once in a while, gets hot like that,” Master’s coach Scott Carlin said of Olin’s second-half scoring spree.

Double Dual at Woodinville: Kamiak won both of its matches defeating Eastlake 52-18 and Woodinville 70-12. The Huss brothers – Nick (140 pounds), Paul (171) and Joe (275) – won both or their matches. Nick pinned both of his opponents and Joe pinned his Woodinville opponent and had a major decision in his match versus Eastlake. Kamiak’s Chris Munoz, wrestling at 160 pounds, pinned both of his opponents.

Ten of the 14 Marauders were making their first varsity appearance. Freshmen Kyle Bush, making his varsity debut, won his match at 112 pounds. Raymond Lee, also a freshman, won at 119 for Mariner.

Juanita Rebel duals: Down 25-24 going into the final match of the night, Snohomish’s Mac Stach, wrestling at 275-pounds, pinned his opponent giving the Panthers a 30-25 victory over Juneau-Douglas of Alaska and taking first place in the Juanita Rebel duals. Tony Harness (125) and Sandy Houck (160) won all three of their matches during the tournament. Archbishop Murphy took fifth place in the tournament defeating Bellevue Christian 42-40.
