STANWOOD – University of Washington-bound Jon Brockman scored a career high 51 points to lead the Snohomish Panthers to a 99-86 Western Conference North Division victory over the Stanwood Spartans Thursday night at Stanwood High School.
With the victory Snohomish (12-4 league, 15-5 overall) tied Marysville-Pilchuck, Mount Vernon and Cascade for a share of the Wesco North division title. The Panthers clinched the North’s No. 2 seed for the 4A District 1 playoffs by virtue of a tie-breaker decided at the beginning of the season and will host Meadowdale Tuesday.
“Jon (Brockman) was dominant for them tonight, we had a hard time doubling him,” Stanwood coach Nate DuChesne said.
Heading into the fourth quarter Snohomish had a 71-64 lead, but Stanwood (8-8, 10-10) kept scrapping and fighting, closing to within three at the 4 minute mark of the fourth quarter.
“We cut the lead to three, but just ran out of gas in the end,” DuChesne said.
Daes Kaufman led Stanwood in his last game as a Spartan with 25 points.
