Lake Stevens man killed in fall was veteran hiker
GRANITE FALLS - The hiker who died in a fall on Lewis Peak on Thursday has been identified as Larry Ingalls, 63, of Lake Stevens, a veteran member of the Everett Mountaineers.
Ingalls was hiking with two other men on the west face of the peak, near Barlow Pass off the Mountain Loop Highway, when he reportedly slipped on wet rocks and fell about 300 feet.
A helicopter crew from Whidbey Island Naval Air Station found Ingalls dead after his companions were unable to reach him, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.
He died from head injuries, according to the Snohomish County medical examiner's office.
Ingalls, a member of the Everett Mountaineers since 1992, was given the group's distinguished service award in 2002. He had served as branch chairman, vice branch chairman and alpine scrambling committee chairman.
Ingalls' death marks the third fatal hiking accident in Snohomish County this year. Two men died in February after falling off trails on Mount Dickerman.
