Lynnwood works overtime to keep playoff hopes alive

LYNNWOOD – It took a little a little extra time, but the Lynnwood Royals’ postseason hopes are still alive.

Lynnwood downed Shorecrest 49-48 in overtime in a Wesco South game at Lynnwood High School Tuesday night.

The Royals win, coupled with Arlington’s loss to Marysville-Pilchuck, creates a potential tie for the final 3A District 1 playoff berth.

Lynnwood finished its regular season at 3-13 in league, 4-16 overall and its fate will be determined on Thursday when Arlington (3-12, 3-16) plays host to Cascade (3-12, 5-14).

If Cascade wins it will force a tiebreaker game between Arlington and Lynnwood.

The Royals defeated Arlington 53-43 on Dec. 5.

Lynnwood’s Chris Gordon took a charge with one second remaining, negating a Shorecrest bucket that would’ve given the Scots a 50-49 lead. Spencer Hunsinger’s 3-pointer with 30 seconds remaining in regulation forced the extra period, tying the score at 42-42.

Andrew Beatty led the Royals with 14 points.

Yev Zuyev led the Scots with 15.

Mountlake Terrace 85, Mariner 56: At Mountlake Terrace, John Allen scored 31 points and hit seven 3-pointers and Mountlake Terrace shot a remarkable 32-for-49 from the field in defeating Mariner in the Wesco South game. It was the most points the Marauders had given up all season. Mariner had entered the game giving up 42.1 points per contest. Jerrel Grant led Mariner with 15 points.
