Lakewood teacher honored

The Lakewood Middle School PTSA recently presented teacher Tasha Kryger with its Outstanding Educator Award. In addition to the certificate and pin, a donation has been made by the PTSA in her Kryger’s name to the Washington PTA Scholarship fund.

Community Club awards scholarships to four students

The Lake Goodwin Community Club recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to four local students: Andrew Curtis, who is home-schooled; Kelsey Cline of Stanwood High School; and Kelvin Mansfield and Tanya Davenport, both of Lakewood High School. The club also awarded a scholarship to a member’s granddaughter who lives in Portland, Ore.

Kids write kids’ books

Students in Jeanne Bartlett’s sixth- to eighth-grade literature class recently wrote and illustrated children’s stories with help from local author Mindy Hardwick.

The students then read their works aloud to their classmates in kindergarten to ninth grade.

The books focused on good messages for younger children, such as how being different can be good, following parental rules keeps us safe and taking a bath is good even if some animals don’t. There also were pop-up books and rhymes.
