LAKE STEVENS – A crash Wednesday morning on Highway 92 sent an 18-year-old Lake Stevens woman to a Seattle hospital with serious injuries, officials said.
The woman apparently was making a left turn onto 127th Drive NE when her car was struck broadside by a dump truck and trailer rig about 7:15 a.m., Washington State Patrol Sgt. Harlan Jackson said.
The woman, who reportedly was alert and conscious at the scene, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries, Jackson said. Hospital officials said Wednesday night that her condition was critical.
The dump truck driver was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, Lake Stevens Fire District 8 Deputy Chief Richard Adkins said.
The woman’s car was destroyed and the dump truck hauling gravel sustained damage, Adkins said. Both vehicles went into a ditch. The dump truck lost part of its load.
Detectives from the State Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation Team were called, standard procedure when a commercial vehicle is involved in a crash, Jackson said.
Troopers do not believe speed or alcohol contributed to the crash, he said.
The road was closed for about 30 minutes Wednesday morning as police investigated the crash and cleaned up the gravel debris, Jackson said.
