On Monday, Radiohead plans to stop offering its acclaimed new album “In Rainbows” as a free download through its Web site.
“A big thank you to everyone who came and downloaded the music,” the band said in a post. “It’s been the most positive thing we’ve done and we hope you shared the experience with others.”
Additionally, the group plans to halt production of a limited edition discbox. An uncertain amount of remaining discboxes are available at the band’s Internet store.
Since dropping the bombshell in October that “In Rainbows” would be initially released as a pay-what-you-want-styled download, the group has kept fans happy with the occasional Web cast.
Now, “In Rainbows” is set for a conventional release, i.e., one that costs money, in stores on Jan. 1.
