Hamill headed to Providence
Tips center Zach Hamill is headed to Providence to join the AHL team. Hamill, selected eighth overall in the 2007 NHL draft by the Boston Bruins, has already signed his contract with Boston, so he's free to join the Bruins' AHL affiliate in Providence. This doesn't mean Hamill can't return to Everett next season as an overager, but I highly doubt that's going to happen. He was flying out tonight.
As of this afternoon Hamill was the only Tip on his way to join a pro team. Goaltender Leland Irving, who's also signed, hadn't heard anything from the Calgary Flames. Neither had right wing Dan Gendur or defenseman Taylor Ellington, unsigned draft picks of the Vancouver Canucks. Defenseman Dane Crowley was working on a deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning to join the AHL's Norfolk Admirals, but the deal fell through.
