MILL CREEK — Behind 5-3 against Bainbridge Island, Richmond scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, capped by a three-run Cam Sterne home run, to win 13-5 on Saturday and advance to the championship game of the Washington State Little League Baseball Tournament at Freedom Field.
Richmond takes on host Mill Creek in today’s 1 p.m. final and must win twice to represent Washington in the Northwest Regional Tournament at San Bernardino, Calif.
Everet Coba got things going in Richmond’s half of the fourth with a stand-up double to left. Five batters later, Richmond grabbed a 7-5 lead, largely due to three Bainbridge Island errors. Sterne then singled sharply to left and Kory Longaker followed with his ninth home run of the tournament to make it 9-5.
It added one more in the fourth and three in the fifth on Sterne’s opposite-field blast. Richmond reliever Steffen Torgerson recorded the final outs to preserve to win.
