STANWOOD — Everybody looks to play their best tennis at the Division Championship. There’s performing well, and then there’s Stanwood senior Kyle Koetje.
Koetje tore up the competition on Wednesday, earning two 6-0, 6-0 victories to advance to the semifinals of the Class 4A Wesco North tournament at Stanwood High School.
Koetje began with a straight-sets victory over Andre Smith of Lake Stevens and then he swept Howard Chen of Monroe.
“He’s a very experienced player,” tournament director Ron Shanander said of Koetje. “He’s got the full game … he’s been playing well all throughout the season.”
The semifinals begin at 2:30 p.m. today at Stanwood High.

At Mill Creek, Wesco South regular-season champion Jackson (14-2) showed its dominance Wednesday when Timberwolves singles players Michael Chamerski and Robin Choi dropped just a single set between them on the first day of the Class 4A Wesco South tennis tournament at Jackson High School.
After a first-round bye Chamerski defeated Alex Frederickson of Edmonds-Woodway 6-0, 6-0. Choi defeated Serghei Iancenco of Mariner 6-1, 6-0 in the first round then John Oh of Kamiak 6-0, 6-0.
The tournament continues at 3 p.m. today at Jackson High.
