Veggie tales: Share your produce triumphs of 2008

How did your 2008 vegetable-growing season go? We all know it wasn’t the greatest year ever for tomatoes in the Northwest.

Right?

Then again, you may beg to differ. Did your Sungolds produce bountifully? What food crops did well for you this year? Taters? Cukes? Blueberries? Chard? Arugula?

Which ones were dismal failures? More important, what new and exciting varieties are you sure to plant again in 2009?

We’d like to hear all about your fruit and vegetable gardening success stories and failures.

You can post them below in the comments section or, especially if you have photos to share, write Sarah Jackson here with your veggie tales and photos and we’ll post them here if you like.

Don’t be shy.

I’ll kick off the event with my favorite carrots of the year (pictured). I think they were called 'Nantes.' I ordered all my carrot seeds from The Territorial Seed Co., a great Northwest resource.

I love the stubby look of these babies, definitely not something you’ll find at the grocery store. (And isn’t that the whole point of growing your own?)

Most of all, however, their fresh snacking flavor is excellent — light and bright — not bitter like the purple and red novelty carrots I grew this year. Those will definitely be for roasting. Yech.
